When cancellation rates lie
· Desktop Canvascore
Ops teams often treat cancellation percentage as a moral score for partners. In Malaysian ride-hailing exports, the same number can mean three different stories.
Three common stories
Staging mismatch. Partners sit two kilometres from the demand pocket. Passengers cancel while the car crawls through a jammed feeder road. The export shows cancellations; the map shows a staging gap.
Incentive distortion. A short bonus window pulls partners toward airport queues while residential corridors empty. Cancellations rise where passengers still wait — not where partners earn the bonus.
Weather and events. Monsoon cells and stadium exits create sharp, honest spikes. Averaging them into a monthly score hides the actionable hour.
A practical read
- Split cancellations by hour band and approximate pickup corridor.
- Overlay partner online density for the same bands.
- Ask whether partners could physically reach the request in the median wait time.
If partners were online nearby and still cancelled, partnership coaching may help. If partners were elsewhere by design, fix staging before rewriting the entire incentive table.
